Joy Morsi gets probation after pleading guilty to having sex with two boys
A gym teacher at a Queens high school was sentenced to probation after she admitted to having sex with two 16-year-old boys on the campus at which she worked, the Queens District Attorney said.
Joy Morsi, 40, pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to charges of third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sexual act, the DA said.
She was ordered by Acting Queens Supreme Court Justice Dorothy Chin-Brandt to undergo a year of outpatient mental health treatment for depressive disorder.
If Morsi successfully completes the treatment, she’ll be sentenced to 10 years’ probation, the DA said. If not, she could face 1 ½ years in prison and 5 years of post-release supervision.
As part of her sentencing, Morsi was forced to surrender her teaching license and must register as a sex offender, the DA said.
Morsi taught physical education at Grover Cleveland High School in the Ridgewood section of Queens. She was arrested in June 2014 on charges she had sex with a 16-year-old boy in the school’s basement, among other places on campus.
That relationship began in June 2013, prosecutors said.
Nearly a year later in May 2014, Morsi exposed herself to another 16-year-old studentthen performed a sex act on him, prosecutors said.
Students at the school described Morsi as popular, but told DramaTv News last year that there was some suspicion that was involved with a student.
