Dave Chappelle's mad as hell that some people think he's backing Donald Trump -- and he's throwing major shade at the reporter who started all the buzz.

We caught up with the legendary comedian Monday outside Soho Grand in NYC. He was visibly and hysterically dismayed about the reaction to his gig at The Cutting Room.

Dave made it absolutely clear where his alliance DOESN'T stand, and he said a ton about The Observer -- which posted the story about him supporting Trump -- but only with his eyes.
