The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office has fired a sergeant who was arrested after an alleged incident of domestic violence at his home.
Curtis Sowder, 28, had been on paid leave following his arrest by Bridgeville police on assault charges in the early-morning hours of Jan. 22. Authorities said the incident involved Sowder and his wife.
"The sheriff's office was advised of the arrest shortly after the incident occurred, and immediately began an investigation regarding the matter," Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus said Tuesday. "After reviewing the information and evidence regarding the case, the sheriff's office initiated the disciplinary process on Monday, January 23, 2017. Sergeant Sowder's employment with the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office was terminated this afternoon. No further comment will be made at this time."
An online docket shows that Sowder is charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. A preliminary hearing in front of District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet is scheduled for Feb. 27.
